New Year's Resolution

What really is it?

According to Wikipedia, a New Year's Resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or the reforming of a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous. The name comes from the fact that these commitments normally go into effect on New Year's Day and remain until fulfilled or abandoned.

Remain until fulfilled or abandoned? Abandoned? Okay... So some resolutions are meant to be abandoned, right? I tried not to think about resolutions for 2009 since I was thinking time would come that they're no longer followed. Not until I found the definition above. So here is a list of my resolutions for the new year.
  1. Go to mass every Sunday at the Xavier University Chapel.
  2. Try to avoid over-eating. I'm getting fat! *worries*
  3. Start thinking positive all the time. Don't worry too much.
  4. Save money!
  5. Don't be insecure. I'll try.
  6. Avoid cramming. Be a responsible student!
  7. Clean your room regularly.
  8. Don't speak bad words!
  9. Avoid backbiting. Stop being mean!
  10. Be kind. Be nice.
Those are my ten new year's resolutions. I really hope I can commit to each one of them. So help me, God.

How about you, what are your new year's resolutions?

2008: The Year That Was

Today is the second to the last day of year 2008. Before I welcome year 2009, allow me to share to you the highlights of my year 2008.

STUDIES. I really had a hard time dealing with my studies this year. Although I made it to the Dean's List last March, I still think I'm not doing good at all. Last semester, I got very low grades which is why I wasn't able to make it to the Dean's List anymore. I was even scared I wouldn't be able to maintain my scholarship but fortunately I still have it! Thank God! Well currently I have so many requirements to accomplish: projects, assignments. God, help me! By the way, I'm taking up BS Computer Science at Xavier University and I'll be graduating this March, hopefully. So just imagine how busy I am.

SOCIAL LIFE. Well I've had so much fun this year even though I'm not in good terms with someone right now and even though I had a very self-degrading experience early this semester. I have attended several gatherings and shared more bonding moments with my friends especially my blockmates. I also had great fun and adventure in different places. Last summer, I was in Manila for my OJT and the IT department of the company I was working for, had an outing at Zambales. We visited two nice islands there! I also went to Enchanted Kingdom with some of my high school classmates. During the semestral break, I explored Camiguin Island with four of my blockmates. I really had a blast!

LOVE LIFE. It was good during the first month but he was gone all of a sudden. During summer, I found out something that really hurt my pride. Then I found a guy I thought of as my ideal guy. But he had a girlfriend. Too bad. Well, I have many crushes back in school. I think I haven't fallen in love with any of them, which is actually great fun. And then... just this month, I had a conversation with someone and there were revelations which only the two of us know. I guess it was just nothing. But we'll see what's in store for the two of us next year. (as if! hahaha)

FAMILY LIFE. I think my family is doing good. I mean, problems never stop coming right but then I'm glad we're still hanging on. But this year, I really had my full attention given to my sister who's going through a lot lately. I really can't forget what happened last summer when we were still in Manila. It wasn't easy. It was too hard to take. I guess it was the worst thing I ever encountered in my life. But what I like about that experience is that it brought me and my sister to a deeper relationship. We remained strong by always being there for each other. I hope God will grant her the end of her sufferings.

UNCATEGORIZED. I don't know which aspect this falls but I'm gonna share it anyway. Late this year I have a friend who invited me to be part of his band, making me one of the four vocalists. I'm really very excited about this one 'coz I have always dreamt of singing with a band. I hope we will be able to push through with the plans. I wanna make it happen! *fingers crossed*

Wow! I just realized how memorable my year 2008 is. It has been a year full of ups and downs. Well... let's just see what's gonna happen to my life in 2009. May it bring me and all of us more joy than sadness. Have a blessed new year, everyone! *winks*

Elle: The Gossip Girl

Who among you are Heroes and Gossip Girl fanatics just like me? Did you know that Kristen Bell who played the late Elle of HEROES is the same person who plays as the Upper East Side blogger with all the hot gossip as the narrator on GOSSIP GIRL?

Yeah. I was as surprised as you are. Or... Am I too late to know about this? It's quite funny 'coz I have been watching HEROES (whose volume three just ended) and GOSSIP GIRL (whose latest episode, the 13th of season 2, is my favorite) and I just found out about this yesterday. *laughs* It was unbelievable at first so I tried to compare Elle's voice and Gossip Girl's and see if they are the same. Watch and listen.

Uhmmm.. yeah. So true! Only that Kristen's voice in Gossip Girl is gossipy, of course. I like Kristen Bell. It's just so sad that we won't be seeing her anymore since her character was killed by Sylar (played by Zachary Quinto, a very close friend of Kristen Bell and rumored to be his boyfriend).

Oh well... I guess Kristen Bell's career is at its peak right now. I mean... being part of the famous Gossip Girl? It must be something she should be proud of.

She knows we love her.

Leaving a Message

To BEVS: Thank you so much for being my dearest and closest friend all these college years. It has been fun being your partner in almost all things. You have been my neutralizer. Haha! You have no idea how grateful I am to have you. Let's keep this friendship forever, okay?

To ARRIANE: It has been fun and great having you around. You have always been there to make me strong and realize some philosophical things. Haha! :p It's always an advantage to have a more mature and more experienced friend like you. Experienced? Aw! Wahehe! Thanks for being my wisdom! Char!

To SHANG: You remind me how useful I am by always making me feel like you need me despite the many friends you have. We may not always hang out together but we're always there whenever we need each other the most. Thanks for being true to me, Shang. And please, I may not be strong enough for you, but please please be strong, okay? Never give up! And as always, I'm here for you.

To BLONDZ: Honestly, you have been so distant these past few years. You are so pre-occupied with a lot of things. And hell yeah, we've been through A LOT. But still, I thank you for the times you shared with me just to cope up with the times we've lost. Thanks for keeping what we have alive. May you be happy wherever and with whomever you are.

To THESA: I know a lot has been bothering you and at times I can feel that you don't know how to handle or express them. But with me, you don't have to worry. I may not totally understand you but one thing's for sure, I'm here to listen to you and just let you blab things out. It's one way to release stress right? And Thes, hang out with us sometimes okay?

To KEN: I know you have a delicate heart inside you and thanks for letting us in. It has always been my pleasure to be told about your aches and happiness. Just keep on loving and having fun, okay? And yeah, I'm always here to understand.

To CAYE: We may not be that close to share secrets or problems but it always felt nice whenever we have time to talk about anything despite your busy schedule. I like the way you're living your life, Caye. Full of happiness, full of love, without insecurities. Perfect!

To GLAIZEE: I know I have already told you how I appreciate you so much. I'm just so thankful that a person like you still exists. You're one of a kind! And it feels good to hang out with you, very happy-go-lucky. And also, we're both crybabies! Haha! It's nice to have a friend who is as sensitive as I am, or more. Stay the same, Glaiz!

To OZZIE: Of all the guys in our block, I am most comfortable around you. I just don't have any problem with you, Oz. It's like I have nothing to worry when you're there. Char! But yeah, seriously, you're such a nice friend. And the thing I like about you is that you have always been an optimist. Nice attitude! And by the way, thanks for being in our team.

To DOM: Truth or dare? Haha :p It was fun having that conversation with you. Thank you so much for you know, for being nice and all. And I'm so sorry for making you feel something which isn't true at all. I didn't mean to. Thanks for the times :) .. for treating me the way a lady should be treated.

To JEP: I know that it's him that you love. Bwahahaha! Joke! :p Seriously though, thanks for being my academics consultant (what? haha), and for the company especially those times you had no choice but to wait 'til I get my ride first. Haha! I'm sorry. But yeah, thanks!

To DAN: Remember that time we rushed to the hospital? We were on our way towards becoming the next heroes! LOL. Well, that was a moment for both of us. Char! It was an unforgettable experience and I'm glad I shared it with you. Another char! Hehe.. Well, thank you so much for the rare times.

To JETHRO: There may be times when we just don't get along together and I get so annoyed with you. But still, we're friends (as far as I know). Thank you for sharing with us your heartaches and I'm glad you're happier now (are you?). And by the way, I don't wanna miss saying this to you. You're such a talented guy! And I like you and your bro's tandem. You have a future! Haha :p

To JAMES: You are so damn in love! Gawd! Well, James.. Be careful, okay? Hehe :) Ugh. I admit it really came to a point that I hated you for being so loud, noisy, annoying, etc. But that was before. Now, I'm glad that your in love. At least you're trying to behave now. Haha! I'm so happy for you, James! Stay in love!:)

To JETT: I don't know why I'm including you here. Haha! Peace :p Well, I don't know what's up with you lately. All I know is that you are famous now. You know, being an XU basketball star player. Nux. And you have a lot of fans already. Bwahaha! I know you are enjoying every bit of what you have right now. Just keep your feet on the ground. :p

To EDWARD: Have you read my card, already? Hehe. Uhmm.. Dward, I'm sorry but it feels good whenever I annoy you. Haha! Evil me. It's coz I know you'll never get angry with me. Haha! Right? Awww.. Sweet :) Thanks for being like that.. and thanks for those two big hugs u gave me during the party. Haha! It proved you're not angry with me. Thanks!

To LLENO: Hey, romantic guy! Char! Well yes you are, llen (aside from being a pervert at times. haha! peace!). It has been my pleasure reading your compositions online. They're nice and meaningful. Just stay sweet okay? And... Blondie likes you. And we like you for her. Hahhahhaha! :p

Whew! I really took time to do this. It's coz I love you, guys... and I might not have time to say these things to you anymore. And since it's Christmas, take it as my gift. Hehe.. It's all I can afford. I'm broke. But hey, "no greater gift is there than love" as the song Give Love on Christmas Day says. And yeah, I love you! MERRY CHRISTMAS! mwahugz!:)

Lonely Christmas

Okay. I thought my Christmas is gonna be fun or merry. I miss everyone. I only have my parents to celebrate with. My sister and two brothers won't be home for Christmas. Sad, right? But I think my situation is better. At least I have my parents. I just can't imagine being in the shoes of my siblings. They're out there, celebrating with their friends. But still, that kinda feels lonely right? Oh my. I can't imagine celebrating Christmas without my family. Soon, I'll be working. I might be all by myself next Christmas. Ugh. But I wanna see to it that I'll be home every Christmas. I'll do what it takes.

Anyway, this one's funny. While I was Googling images for "lonely christmas" I found this image. *laughs* Pathetic? Yeah yeah. This picture is very sad yet I can't help but laugh at it. She's very lonely and sad. I would love to relate myself to her but then, what's that mistletoe for? Wait, she's loveless! Like me? Definitely! As a teenager young lady, it's normal that I long to have a special someone on Christmas. But due to family rules and regulations, I can't have one. I still have to graduate. And yes!!! I'll be graduating on March! I mean, assumingly, I won't be lonely next Christmas! *giggles*

Wait, have you noticed the shift? From family to lovelife. Crap! I'm sorry. I got out of track. Well either way, the truth remains: my Christmas is lonely. But I'm not really sad. It's normal! Good thing I have other things to do online: blog, play games, check emails, chat at YM, watch movies, make projects and assignments (I hate my teachers for these!), etcetera etcetera... Merry Christmas to me!!!

OMG! wait!! While I was about to end this post, my Tita came and handed me P500! Gawd!!!! I love her!! Hahahaha! I am soooooo happy! Weeeeee!!!!!! Haha! Wait, where was I? Oh. Yeah. Ciao! :p

Thoughts at the Start of the Christmas Break

I think I started my Christmas break right. Our organization held a Christmas Party last Saturday evening and it was a blast! I enjoyed the games, the food, the people. I never had that kind of party in a long time. You know, the typical Christmas party we used to have back in grade school. It was nice. I can really say that I had enjoyed a lot during my last Christmas Party in college. Aside from that, I love my friends' gifts. Special thanks to Beverly, Arriane, and Thesa. I am so touched for their thoughtfulness. Thank you, gals! *hugs*

Anyway, some of us stayed somewhere over night. It was fun though. Spending time with a new crowd just drinking, talking, laughing, playing dart, billiards, spin-the-bottle game, etc. And yeah, I've discovered a lot from talking with different people. And they made me feel good. Talk about compliments. Gawd, I never heard such things in a long time. Maybe it's the greatest gift I have received. You know, being appreciated for what you have and what you are, realizing your worth. Such a nice feeling! Flattering... except for some things that got in the way like your friends having to deal with some issues you are actually involved in. Although I preferred them to just let us be, I still love them for trying. I appreciate the effort. Some things are just meant to end. What's lost it lost.

And by the way, it's Christmas! Be happy! And I am happy! I also finally got the chance to spend time with my bestfriend who I miss so much. Gawd, last night was really memorable. I guess I'll be having a merry Christmas. Thank you, Lord! It was a good start. I hope it goes on and on.

To everyone out there, advanced HAPPY CHRISTMAS! Be merry, be very merry. *winks*

WaterWalkerz's Hamster Ball

I'm not sure if that's what they call it. I just found out about this cool invention based in UK, a giant beach ball that can contain a human being who then tries to walk on the water. I've seen the video and found it funny. *laughs* But I'm kinda curious how's it gonna be when you are inside a ball then you try to walk on the water. Gosh! Wouldn't that be fun? But I think it's hard because it's not easy to balance yourself considering the buoyancy of the water. You'll just end up stumbling or rolling inside. Pathetic! *laughs* Oh well, it would give you an idea how it is to be a hamster. *winks* But I think this is a great workout too! It's a great challenge. Awwww.. I so wanna try it. I'm sure you'd feel the way I do after while watching the video. Take a look! *grins* You can also visit their site too. Click here.

Sore Throat - Causes and Remedies

It's been three days since I had this sore throat and it's just getting worse each day. *frets* I haven't got the chance to go the hospital and have it checked up. I just can't find the time. Tsk. But my mother gave me some temporary meds to take until we visit the doctor. Being so worried about my situation, I searched Google about sore throat. And here's what I've read from MedicineNet:

A sore throat can have many causes including:
  1. Common viruses, and even the viruses that cause mononucleosis (mono) and the flu, can cause a sore throat. Some viruses can also produce blisters in the mouth and throat ("aphthous stomatitis").
  2. Breathing through the mouth can produce throat dryness and soreness.
  3. Sinus drainage (post nasal drip) may cause a sore throat.
  4. A sore throat can also be caused by bacteria. The two most common bacteria to cause a sore throat are Streptococcus (which causes strep throat) and Arcanobacterium haemolyticum. Arcanobacterium causes sore throats mainly in young adults and is sometimes associated with a fine red rash.
  5. Sore throat appearing after treatment with antibiotics, chemotherapy, or other immune-compromising medications may be due to Candida, commonly known as "thrush."
  6. A sore throat lasting for more than two weeks can be a sign of a serious illness, such as throat cancer or AIDS.
Now we know the possible causes. I think what caused my sore throat is number 3. Anyway, here are the remedies suggested by MedicineNet:

Generally, sore throats must run their course (exception, strep throat will be addressed below.)
  • Salt water gargles, hard candies, sprays for example, Chloraseptic) and lozenges can provide temporary pain relief. (Caution: Lozenges and hard candy are a choking hazard for children. Avoid their use in young children.)
  • A humidifier may be helpful in relieving symptoms, especially in sore throats caused by mouth breathing and dry air.
  • Acetaminophen or ibuprofen may help control the pain.
  • For adults, if your nose is plugged, nasal sprays such as Afrin may be used for two to three days to prevent mouth breathing. It is NOT a good idea to use these products for more than a couple of days; you may become dependent on them.
  • Other decongestant products, such as Sudafed, may be helpful.
I might try some of these. But then, if all else fails, it's still best to consult a doctor. Right? Gawd. I hope I'll get well soon. This is just so hard. It's painful to swallow. *sighs* Pray for me, will you? Thanks. *smiles*

Ebola Virus Hit Pigs in the Philippines

This morning, I heard a news from the radio saying that there's a virus detected on some pigs in our country. Oh my! Pigs? I love pork!!! Noooo! So I searched about the news and found this most accurate news online. This news is taken from The Earth Times.

***

Manila - Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo Thursday ordered agriculture and health officials to closely monitor an outbreak of an Ebola virus strain in several pig farms in three northern provinces. Deputy presidential spokesman Anthony Golez said Arroyo wanted agriculture authorities to prevent the Ebola Reston virus from spreading to other pig farms in the country.

Golez, a medical doctor, assured the public that the Ebola Reston virus found in the pigs was not harmful to humans.

"From the epidemiological standpoint, humans have high tolerance for this virus," he said. "Just like any other food, we should make sure that the food we are preparing is cooked properly."

Golez said the Ebola Reston virus dies at 70 degrees Celcius, which is below boiling point.

Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap said the government had temporarily suspended exports of all pork products from the Philippines until the virus has been eradicated.

"Although the virus does not affect the health of humans, we decided to put on hold all exports," he said. "Let us eradicate first this virus."

Yap said agriculture technicians confirmed that 28 pigs from four piggeries in the northern provinces of Bulacan, Pangasinan and Nueva Ecija had tested positive for the virus during a recent random check.

He said the Bureau of Animal Industry set up pig checkpoints to prevent the transport of contaminated animals. A total of 42 people who had close contacts with the contaminated pigs had tested negative for the disease, Yap said.

***

So it's not really that harmful, right? But still, we have to be careful on what we eat. Well I have noticed that most animals have diseases or virus. Maybe the safest way to avoid these is to change our lifestyle. Vegetables and fruits are more nutritious. Let us all be vegetarians! *laugh* Yeah right... I, myself, can't be a vegetarian. I mean, I don't think I'd be happy being a vegetarian. I'm an omnivore! *winks* But then seriously, friends, let's be careful alright? Just be careful.

Beats, anyone?

We love music, right? I mean... Who doesn't? Well there's this one music website where one can listen to some beats. When I first visited it, the site loaded fastly. I have always had this thinking that music websites often take so much time to load. But this site? It's an exception. And the list of music are properly laid out. The site is simple yet elegant. The beats can be played upon your choice and when you like them, you have to register to download it. The fees are quite expensive but I guess the beats are worth the price. Why? It's because these beats are original and they are composed and uploaded by real artists. They may not be that famous but they have the talent to compose beats! Amazing, right? So this site is not just for downloads. You can also submit your composition and become a featured artist. One thing more, once you have downloaded a beat, you can use it to make a song. You can sell, distribute, perform and broadcast the song/video you make with any instrumental downloaded from the site. Jee Juh Productions make all these possible for musically-inclined people who either want to compose, or make use of the beats to come up with a real song. Beats, anyone? Visit their site now.

Mac Games and More

I'm not really that type of person who's into games. But sometimes I play especially when I get so bored. I even get addicted to some fun games. One can find many downloadable games online. However, I got into this website where there are free mac games. Mac, yes! As in Macintosh games! How many of you love Mac? *grins* For those who do not know yet, Mac developers created mac games that have very nice user interface. I like the design of the games! I know you'll like them. And oh! By the way, everyone knows how to play solitaire, right? You can also play spider solitaire for mac, too! Curious? Just click one of the links and find out for yourself. *winks* Enjoy the mac games!

All I Want For Christmas

a baby??? No! Not yet, of course! *laughs*

It's exactly 30 days before Christmas and honestly, I really don't know what my heart's deepest desire is for Christmas. I haven't really been enjoying my Christmas these past few years. Happy, in a way, yes... But there's always something missing. And I don't know what that is. Maybe I just miss celebrating Christmas with my whole family. It's been a long time since all the members of our family celebrated Christmas together. Awww... I miss us. Geez... stop!:)

But hey! I have here a list of things that I want this Christmas! *winks*
  • new magic wallet
  • plain Havaianas slim slippers
  • external hard disk
  • 8gig flash disk
  • fluffy flip flops
  • pajamas
  • extra cellphone
  • "Whatever" shirt
  • big huggable stuffed toy!!!
  • Nike sling bag
  • kinda big shoulder bag (for my books)
  • chocolates
Hahaha! Wow! Not so many, huh? *grins* Oh well, I accept gifts from anyone. Haha! And you, do you want to make me happy? Send me gifts! *lol* Joke! (but jokes are half-meant) *evilsmile*

Merry Christmas, everyone!:)

Unpretty

Whenever one visits my blog, one wonders why its title is "Unpretty". I should have posted the origin of this blog title the first time I got it published. But it's not yet too late to inform you now, right?

The first time I came across the word "unpretty" was when I first heard the song "Unpretty" by TLC. I guess that was almost ten years ago. The song is nice and somehow I started to relate to it when I reached college. I'm also fond of chatting in mIRC and there was once I used it as my nick. But then I stopped using it after finding out there was another girl using the same nick. "Oh well... I can still use it as the title of my blog," I thought. So here, the title of my blog is Unpretty. Why? It's because some people make me feel I am. I can't please everyone, right? And I guess I'd have to live with that. But, I'm still grateful some would say I'm not. Gee, thanks! *winks* I love you! But still... I like the title of my blog, unique! :)

So here's the song I'm referring to. Enjoy the video!:)

VIXY - Online Video Converter

A friend of mine requested me to master his favorite song. I wasn't able to download it on Limewire so I decided to download only the audio of the song's video from YouTube. So I asked my friend Thesa how to do it and she suggested to visit vix-y.net. I was totally amazed! Or maybe I was just so ignorant. *laughs* I think converting the video to MP3 format is a lot easier and faster than downloading mp3s. All you have to do is enter the video's URL! Great!

Here are the screenshots of the tool... You can download the Vixy.net Converter Desktop Version here.

Boost Your Self-Esteem

I so need these tips right now. I just had a very bad experience I think I'll never forget. Imagine being compared to a girl you know who is a lot more beautiful than you in class. "Who is more beautiful?" -- "Who is more attractive?" Dammit! It was the most embarrassing and most humiliating experience I ever had. It damaged my self-esteem. I am so damaged. Damaged to the point that I sought ways to make my self feel better. I really hope I could get over this soon. God, help me.

* * *

1) Think back to when you did something new for the first time.

Learning something new is often accompanied by feelings of nervousness, lack of self belief and high stress levels, all of which are necessary parts of the learning process. The next time you feel under-confident, remembering this will remind you that it's perfectly normal - you're just learning!

2) Do something you have been putting off.

Like writing or calling a friend, cleaning the house, tidying the garden, fixing the car, organizing the bills, making a tasty and healthy meal - anything that involved you making a decision, then following through!

3) Do something you are good at.

Examples? How about swimming, running, dancing, cooking, gardening, climbing, painting, writing… If possible, it should be something that holds your attention and requires enough focus to get you into that state of 'flow' where you forget about everything else. You will feel more competent, accomplished and capable afterwards, great antidotes to low self esteem!

And while you're at it, seriously consider doing something like this at least once a week. People who experience 'flow' regularly seem to be happier and healthier.

4) Stop thinking about yourself!

I know this sounds strange, but low self esteem is often accompanied by too much focus on the self. Doing something that absorbs you and holds your attention can quickly make you feel better.

5) Get seriously relaxed.

If you are feeling low, anxious or lacking in confidence, the first thing to do is to stop thinking and relax properly. Some people do this by exercising, others by involving themselves in something that occupies their mind. However, being able to relax yourself when you want is a fantastic life skill and so practicing self hypnosis, meditation, or a physically-based relaxation technique such as Tai Chi can be incredibly useful.

When you are properly relaxed, your brain is less emotional and your memory for good events works better. A great 'rescue remedy'!

6) Remember all the things you have achieved.

This can be difficult at first, but after a while, you'll develop a handy mental list of self-esteem boosting memories. And if you're thinking "But I've never achieved anything", I'm not talking about climbing Everest here.

Things like passing your driving test (despite being nervous), passing exams (despite doubting that you would), playing team sport, getting fit (even if you let it slip later), saving money for something, trying to help someone (even if it didn't work) and so on.

7) Remember that you could be wrong!

If you are feeling bad about yourself, remember that you way you feel affects your thoughts, memory and behavior. So when you feel bad, you will only remember the bad times, and will tend to be pessimistic about yourself. This is where the tip 'Get Seriously Relaxed' comes in!

Summary

Once you have tried out a few of these, consider making them a permanent part of your life. For most people, good self esteem is not just a happy accident, it's a result of the way they think and the things they do from day to day. Good Luck!

* * *

Yeah, good luck to me. =(

Breaking Free in Camiguin

Just came back from Camiguin Island!!! Wooooot! We had so much fun! With at least Php 1,300.00 as pocket money, the five of us (Alvin, Arriane, Bevs, Ken, and I) already enjoyed our stay there last October 28-30. We went to Sto. Nino Cold Spring, Soda Swimming Pool, Old Church Ruins, Sunken Cemetery, Walkway, Ardent Hot Spring, and last but the best, White Island. Quite a lot, huh? It was my second time to tour Camiguin and yet, the feeling of visiting that place is always new to me. Fun fun fun! *grins* Below are some pictures taken.. more photos

Importance of Potassium

You may ask, "Why potassium?" Oh well... It's because I have this friend who was admitted to the hospital last week because of heart inflammation (?). And the cause? Potassium Deficiency. Years ago, I also had a classmate who was also sick due to the same cause. And so I started to wonder what potassium is and how important it is to our body. I did some research and here's what I found.

***

Potassium’s roles in the body include:

  • maintains fluid and electrolyte balance
  • helps transmit nerve impulses
  • helps regulate blood pressure and reduces the risk of stroke
  • helps maintain a regular heartbeat
  • helps prevent muscle cramps
  • Bananas, just one of many potassium-rich foods, are often recommended by health care professionals because they are readily available, easy to chew; and sweet in taste, which almost everyone likes. (Thank God I often eat banana. It's my favorite!)

    EXCESS OF POTASSIUM

Normally an overdose of potassium is not life-threatening, since excess potassium triggers a vomiting reflex in the stomach. Babies and people with weak hearts may not be able to withstand this trauma. Consuming too much potassium can be harmful to people with kidney problems, because they are unable to get rid of the excess.

There is no major chronic disease associated with too much potassium. When excess potassium is present in the blood, the cause is usually a health problem such as kidney failure, uncontrolled diabetes or use of certain drugs. Excess potassium can trigger a heart attack and result in death.

    POTASSIUM DEFICIENCY

A potassium deficiency is unlikely in healthy people, unless the diet primarily consists of highly processed foods on a continuous basis. A deficiency is usually caused by losing excessive amounts of potassium rather than not getting enough in the diet.

The earliest symptoms of a deficiency are tiredness, muscle weakness, and heart muscle irritability, followed by paralysis and confusion. The following conditions can cause a potassium deficiency:

  • dehydration (includes excessive sweating)
  • prolonged diarrhea or vomiting (includes anorexia nervosa and bulimia)
  • diabetic acidosis
  • regular use of certain drugs such as diuretics, strong laxatives and steroids
  • certain chronic diseases like adrenal gland disorders, nephritis and acute leukemia
  • Note: Low potassium symptoms can last for days.

There you have it... so guys, put some potassium inside your system if you don't want to be rushed to the hospital. *winks* Take care!

    Top Three Ideal Dates

I'm all out of love. So what I do is daydream. Pathetic, huh? More like... "hopeless romantic". *laughs*

So here are my top ideal dates. Gosh! So kilig! *giggles*

TOP 1: At The Beach, During The Sunset

Ever since high school, this has been my ultimate ideal date! It's cheap and simple. You only have to go the nearest beach (it has to be clean!), watch the sunset, and spend the whole evening together. I can imagine walking through the shore while holding hands, or sitting together behind a bonfire. Sweet! *winks* I kinda love the beach especially at night. I just love to feel the wind from the sea, and the sound of the waves. (emo!) *giggles to the nth level* Perfectly romantic!

    TOP 2: Harana

Sometimes, I still feel like doing something traditional. "Harana" (or serenade) is the traditional form of courtship in the Philippines. I still find this sweet. I can easily fall for a guy who can sing me songs while playing his guitar, especially when he has a good voice. Gosh! Just knocks me off my feet! Many times I have dreamt of being serenaded by a cute guy. *giggles* He doesn't really have to have a very good voice. It would also be fine if he doesn't know how to play the guitar. As long as he sings for me, i'll already be very impressed. Aaack! Oh I love daydreaming! Haha! =)

TOP 3: At an Adventure Park, say... Enchanted Kingdom
(Sorry to the owners of this pic. I'm not good at photo editing so it kinda looks funny. Haha!)

Last summer, my friends and I went to Enchanted Kingdom. I had so much fun! While I was there, I was also thinking that lovers can also have it as their dating place. *grins* They will surely enjoy each other's company while playing around, riding rollercoasters, bump cars, etc. I love adventure. I love to play despite my age. So this is really ideal for me. But, it doesn't have to be at Enchanted Kingdom. I've also been to HK Ocean Park and HK Disneyland. It would be a lot better if the date is gonna take place in either of these adventure parks. But it'll be too expensive! Enchanted Kingdom is preferable, money-wise. *winks*

    * * *

So there.. You have just read my top three ideal dates. What are yours? *smiles*

    The Dead Sea

Watch this video made by my brother. He toured around Jordan just months ago and it seems like swimming in the Dead Sea was his favorite part of the tour. I wonder how it feels like to be floating on the sea without an effort. *daydreams* I so envy him. Don't worry, someday I'll tour the world! *laughs*

Now play... and have fun watching this short video clip!

    Linkin Park's Chester Bennington, Injured!

While I was watching MTV this morning, I heard a shocking news about my most favorite rock band, Linkin Park. Oh my gosh!!! Chester Bennington, the lead vocalist, has sustained a back injury and is under doctor's orders to refrain from traveling or any physical activities. This caused the cancellation of LP's upcoming concerts in China, Macau, and Taipei.

    Chester Bennington

Sad, isn't it? I'm sure we, their fans, especially Chester's (that includes me, too), are disappointed and worried about the lead vocalist of the band. Oh well, let's just pray for his fast recovery so he could get back on stage and rock on! Oh I so love the way he sings! The best! Chester, you rock! Linkin Park, keep on rockin'!!!

    Walking

Long before the semestral break, I have planned to jog early in the morning for the whole break to lose weight. But unfortunately, this seemed impossible since I had no one to jog with and that's quite scary, right? So, I preferred walking with my mother instead, since she can't jog (ofcourse!).

Since last Monday, my mother and I have been waking up very early in the morning say, 5:00 AM, to walk for an average of one hour daily. I really encouraged my mother to walk with me so that both of us could have an exercise. Not only did I think of losing weight, but I also thought of helping my mother stay healthy. The doctor has been requiring her to walk at least 30 minutes a day so I thought it was about time to help her do that.

While I was thinking of what to post here, I have thought of sharing with you some benefits of walking. So here are some of its numerous benefits...
    • Increased cardiovascular and pulmonary (heart and lung) fitness
    • Reduced risk of heart disease and stroke
    • Improved management of conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, joint and muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes
    • Stronger bones and improved balance
    • Increased muscle strength and endurance
    • Reduced body fat.
Remember. These are just SOME of the MANY benefits of walking. So, keep walking to keep yourself healthy. As most sources say, any amount of walking is good, but for the best health results, set a brisk pace and walk for 30 minutes at least 5 times a week.

    Enjoy walking, walkers! *grins*

    Poems of a Scarred Heart

WARNING: Some words are not suitable to mature people. Hahaha! Mushy thoughts follow. Pardon me. *blushes*

    STAY

    September 15 '08

    A guy comes...
    He pleases me...
    I start to like him...
    He goes away.

But you, why are you still here?
Are you not supposed to be out of my life already?

But... will you stay a little longer?
    Please?

    WHY HIM?
    September 15 '08

Just when I finally found someone who stays,
    something comes unexpectedly.
Why does it have to be him?
    Yes, he's still there...
But will he be only staying for a while?

Good Lord, please keep him strong.
No one sees me the way he does.
Please don't take him away... not now, not forever.

    NO LONGER HOLDING ON
    August 4 '07

    I deserve someone better
    ... a lot better

I have already let you go...
    So please just go

    ... come back no more.

    HAPPY YET STUPID
    Undated

Thinking about our memories together makes me happy.
    I'm happy...

    but I feel stupid.

    PLEASE
    Undated

Please don't let it hide for I'm sick and tired of assuming.

    NOTHING... JUST FACE IT!
    April 4 '07

At first, it seemed he feels the same way
But then reality bites so hard that what seems is not what it is...

    To me, he's something.
    To him, I'm nothing.

Reality is better even if it bites
It's better to be real than to believes there's something
    When actually, there's NOTHING.

VICE, SO NEAR YET SO FAR
    Undated

    Where are you?
    I miss your presence...
your presence that gives me unexplainable happiness,
your presence that makes me hopeless.

    NO, THANKS.
    Undated

    Thanks, but I'm sorry...
    We can never be
    and
    we'll never be.

    THIS ONE'S FOR YOU, LIAR!
    Undated

I used to see you as someone too good to be true
You used to be the one who makes me feel special
We used to be so close to share almost everything

    I used to...
    You used to...
    We used to...

But now, everything is not what

    I
    You
    We

    used to be.

    NEVER!
    Undated

    Hate me, just hate me
'Coz I can never love you back.

    UNTITLED
    November 13 '06

It hurts so much to be the only one trusted by a friend who's in love with thy you used to love knowing he still holds a place in your heart. You know their secrets, you know their happy moments. Every story eats you slowly. You want to escape but the only way escaping from it is to give up a special friendship, something you can't afford to lose.

    Retouched. Revived. Relived.

And so I have decided to renew my blog ... for a big change. Big in the sense that aside from changing its template, I am now determined to commit to this blog. With change comes responsibility. From now on, I'll be taking that responsibility. I will be posting more (especially now that we have already subscribed to a faster internet connection). I also have a plan of putting up another exclusive blog about food recipes my mother got from her culinary workshop. I'll give you the link soon. Watch out for it! *winks*

To those who have still been visiting my blog, thank you so much! I know this blog is almost useless but still, you cared to visit and read some of my posts. Thanks, really.

Gosh! I spent almost one whole day just to change my blog. I've encountered a bunch of errors and guess what, my links are all gone! I AM SO SORRY!!! I'll try to populate my list as soon as possible. Oh, help me!

Oh wee! Good luck to me! Stick around! =)

    Be Responsible, Youth!

I went to the office of the Campus Ministries and took one bookmark whose content got me interested. Read on, and take time to realize...

    I AM A RESPONSIBLE GIRL

My kisses are worth more than a part or a movie.

My body is the temple of God - not a plaything.
The first "NO" may be difficult - after that it's easy.
Virginity is still a virtue; lust is still a capital sin.
The way I dress, act and speak may be a temptation to my boyfriend.
I will observe modesty for his and my own protection.
My parents have done so much for me.
I wish always to be a credit to them.
My boyfriend will be a husband and father someday.
He must be a her in the eyes of his wife and children.
I will do nothing to prevent that on my dates with him.
I want to be a wife and a mother.
I will reserve my purity and affection for my husband and children.
If through my weakness, I should get pregnant,
I will not take "the easy way out" by killing my unborn child.

    I AM A RESPONSIBLE BOY

The parents of my girlfriend place their trust in me.
    I will not violate it.
I will respect my girlfriend as I expect other men to respect my sister.
    I will respect womanhood because my mother is a woman;
I will ask my girlfriend to do nothing that I would be ashamed of if my mother found out.
My girlfriend has given me the honor and pleasure of her company.
It is wrong for me to expect more in payment for this date.
My girlfriend will be a wife and a mother someday.
She must be an example for her children and the pride of her husband.
I will help her to be as pure and decent as I want any wife to be.
Manhood means strength of character as well as body.
Lack of self-control is a sign of weakness.
I want my girlfriend to know I am manly.
God is everywhere, sees everything, knows everything.
Darkness may hide me from people, but it cannot hide me from God.
If through my lack of self-control, I should get a girl pregnant,
I will not put pressure on her to kill our unborn child.

    Best Credit Offers

Money is hard to find nowadays. People get the same experience of wanting or needing something but unfortunately they don't have the money to spend just when they need it the most. To solve this kind of problem, people resort to credit cards. Credit cards help people buy something without carrying cash. Credit card companies give consumers the chance to borrow money from the company and let them pay later. What's good about this service is that even if you are in debt, you're still getting benefits and advantages.

There are a lot of credit card companies out there and one cannot make sure of which one he would choose. There is this one particular site which is all about online best credit card deals. It gives information on credit cards for fair credit like their credit offers, credit history, interest rates, rewards and benefits, etc. From these, one can compare different credit cards, choose the best one, and apply online. Sounds easy, right? Visit the site now, avail of the best credit card, and enjoy shopping!

    On-the-Job Training at KFC Philippines

Who would expect I'd still be back to the blog line after three months? See? There can be miracles! Haha! I left my blog since I had my On-the-Job Training last summer and when I came back from Manila, I had a hard time connecting to the internet at home. But now, I'm back. Yes! And the first thing I would like to share is about my OJT experience.

    Business Systems Department
    KFC Philippines
    RAMCAR Center
80-81 Roces Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City

RAMCAR Center is a big company of companies. It owns KFC, Mister Donut, and Motolite. I worked under KFC. I documented their "Back Office Online" system which has a lot of modules. The most challenging part was analyzing their database. Whew! I really have applied what I've learned in school. Well aside from my work, I have enjoyed my stay in the company because of my officemates. They are so fun to be with. They really made me feel that I belong to the team. Superb! On the other side, I had a hard time living in Manila. I tell you... IT'S NOT EASY! I had financial, social, emotional, physical problems. Name it! It was so damn hard living there and yet somehow, I've enjoyed because of my sister, my high school friends, and my officemates-slash-friends. I just can't find words to perfectly describe my OJT experience. It was a mix of ups and downs. My OJT in Manila has given me the glimpse of the real world - the world after graduation. Indeed it's true what they say: It's better to study than to work.

Here are some pictures of my officemates during my OJT at RAMCAR. I am so grateful for
being part of their company and especially for being part of the Business Systems Department for six weeks. I surely won't forget them and the memories they shared with me.

To Sir Arvin, Sir Mike, Ma'am Monica, Cheryl, Ena, Salve, Levy, Ridvan, Eric, Marlowe, Mon, Simon, Boss Bam, Boss Gamie, Mark... Len and Tass... I wish I had taken all of you in one picture. But anyway, I will never forget you all. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I MISS YOU!

Did you ever have that fantasy of being a model and see yourself in a cover of a magazine? I bet. Me, too! *grins*

I just love this magazine. Cheenee, a close friend of mine, made this for me three years ago. She's an artist, yah know... She's got all the creative power. *proud* When I posted this in my friendster right after she gave me this, many were fooled. Haha! Could be a compliment, right? Haha! Oh well.. Thanks to Cheenee!

Wow... How's that? Haha! Bride? *lol* Don't be fooled! I was just a maid of honor. Gotcha! *winks* But this looks just fine, right? I didn't design this, of course! I just got into this website where you can upload a picture and then choose a design for your magazine cover. It's just as easy as that! You can choose from many fake magazine covers out there! Just for fun!

So.. Do you want to see yourself in a magazine cover? Visit MAGMYPIC.com right now and feed your fantasy! ^_^

    One Tree Hill - Soundtrack

"The First Cut Is The Deepest"

I would have given you all of my heart
But there's someone who's torn it apart
And he's taken just all that I have
But if you want I'll try to love again
Baby, I'll try to love again, but I know...

The first cut is the deepest
    Baby I know
The first cut is the deepest
But when it comes to bein' lucky, he's cursed
When it comes to lovin' me, he's worst...

I still want you by my side
Just to help me dry the tears that I've cried
And I'm sure gonna give you a try
If you want I'll try to love again, (try)
Baby, I'll try to love again, but I know...

    OOHHH,
The first cut is the deepest
    Baby I know
The first cut is the deepest
But when it comes to bein' lucky, he's cursed
But when it comes to lovin' me, he's worst...

I still want you by my side
Just to help me dry the tears that I've cried
But I'm sure gonna give you a try
Cuz if you want I'll try to love again
(Try to love again, try to love again)
Baby, I'll try to love again but I know, OOHHH....

The first cut is the deepest
    Baby I know
The first cut is the deepest
When it comes to bein' lucky, he's cursed
When it comes to lovin' me, he's worst

OOHHH, the first cut is the deepest
Baby I know (baby I know)
The first cut is the deepest
    Try to love again...

    *****

When this song was released some years ago, I liked it without knowing the reason why. I didn't even try to understand what the song means. And then the song didn't linger to my mind any longer that it just slipped out my mind. But when I watched the first season of One Tree Hill, I was reminded of the song. It was then that I tried to listen to the words as Sheryl Crow sang on one episode. Then it hit me. Bullseye! Oh well.. Let's say I can sort of, relate to this song. You know.. that feeling of being hurt over and over again that you start feeling so numb and then your heart is now afraid to give a chance to anyone who comes after a heartbreak... I don't even know which cut is the deepest. There are just too many cuts and scratches. I can hardly remember the first. That's what you get when you easily fall for a crap, when you are so damn sensitive. But my point is: A cut is a cut, may it be deep or shallow. Surely it changes things, even if being unfair is part of it, unfair to the one who helps you recover from the past.

    To Whom It May Concern:

I still want you by my side ... maybe i'll try to love again.

    after one month...

whew! t'was a month ago since my last post.. i've been busy with the projects and final exams. but now i'm finally through with 'em! Thank God!!!

Nowadays, I'm actually quite busy with my applications for an OJT. I'm still looking for a company in Manila to work at. I've tried Accenture, HP, IBM, Lawson Software... These are big international IT companies and it just makes me nervous! Will I be accepted by any one of these companies? I hope so.. or else, I'd end up working at Smart, which is okay but... *grins*

Oh well... I'd just have to wait. I am so excited to go to Manila and be with my sister and of course, go to malls. I just love it there! And.. I'm kinda excited for my OJT but I'm nervous. Let's just see where God wants me to be...

Maybe I'll update you about my OJT: who gets to accept me and who won't *ouch*

Oh my.. my blog is just sooooo boring. Punish me!

    Chimay the Puppy

Just last night, a friend of mine gave me a cute female "askal" puppy. I named her "Chimay"... why? I dunno exactly. I just find the name cute. Oh well... I promised my friend that i'll really take care of the puppy. He even reminded me that the pup loves to drink lots of water. haha! okay... so.. this day, i played with her. She's very playful! She's just so energetic to run around the lawn. And oh, she loves to bite! hahaha! Cute one! We really had a good time playing around... But then.. everything between us has to end. *pouts*

When my father found out that the pup's a female, he told me to give it away. Sad. Oh well, he has a point. Taking care of a female dog is hard coz when their breeding season comes, all the male dogs from the neighborhood will surely come and disturb us. So, i decided to give her to another friend of mine who's willing to take care of her instead. She'll be getting Chimay tomorrow morning. And I won't be here by the time she leaves home. huhuhu.. so sad. =( really sad =(

Oh well.. i really have to let go of Chimay. I know she'll be in good hands. *sighs*

    Goodbye, Chimay! =(
